Faith Is Not always Easy!
God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12 NLT)
"He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God"
King David, who wrote Psalm 40, experienced many of the same problems we experience. He wasn’t perfect (neither are we), but in his time of need, he solely depended on God. I was reminded early this morning of his words in Psalm 40. “I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.” (Psalm 40:1-3 NLT). I was reminded that Jesus (Whose resurrection we celebrate on Sunday, April 16), defeated sin and death, giving us joy not only for all eternity to come, but also for this life. And what do joyful people do? They sing, like Paul and Silas sang praises to God — even when they were unjustly locked in prison! (Acts 16:16–25).
You may be going through a dark time in your life right now. You may be experiencing emotional, physical, or financial needs. Faith is not always easy, but always necessary in order to have victory! When we sing, or whistle, or smile, people around us take notice. Many will even ask, “Why are you so happy”? Those are “teachable moments” that God provides for us to be a witness for Him. You can even begin your day with the prayer, ”Lord, help me see the opportunities You provide for me today to be a witness for You!”
Long before I got cancer, I have gotten up between 3-4 am (this morning it was later than usual, 4:40 am). I spend that time in prayer, Bible study, worship, and singing. It’s a great way to start your day praying not only for your own needs, but the needs of others. You can rest assured that God can lift you out of the pit of despair and plant your feet on solid ground. I sure am glad I belong to Him!
