Faith Is Not always Easy!

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12 NLT)

Abundant Joy During Difficult Days

I have friends I pray for daily who are going through illness and other trying times. I determined years ago I would never question God’s love for me. God loves me so much He wants to spend eternity with me! “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). The underlying foundation of the Christian faith is the undeserved, limitless love of God that was exhibited on the Cross of Calvary. That love can never be earned.

I have to remind myself often that I can have abundant joy even during difficult days if I depend on God. That’s why Paul said this is the reason that “in all these things we are more than conquerors.”  We are conquerors with a joy that comes from experiencing the very things that look as if they are going to overwhelm us. I have discovered that the things I try to avoid and fight against—tribulation, sickness, and suffering,—are the very things that produce abundant joy in me, because it is during these times I depend on the Lord more than usual.  “We are more than conquerors through Him in all these things”. Real joy depends on the love of God that nothing can change. Joy is not built on anything passing, but the experiences of life, whether they are everyday events or terrifying ones, and they are powerless to “separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”. (Romans 8:28)
