"Joy in Trials"
It’s no secret, trials
come to everyone in different ways and for different
reasons. Troubles come because we live in a broken and
hurting world. But the good news of the Bible is that we
can walk through trials with purpose.
James 1:2-3 says,
“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of
any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for
great joy. For
you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance
has a chance to grow.”
It’s a pretty radical
idea that we can consider hard times as a reason for
joy. When we, as Christians, suffer we simply view this
life as temporary and look forward to when we get to
heaven. Actually, your perspective changes!
James 1:12 says, “God
blesses those who patiently endure testing and
temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of
life that God has promised to those who love him.”
Therefore, we can face trouble with joy.
Dear Lord, You know suffering. When You brought Your
Son to earth, You were despised and betrayed. Isaiah 53
says, “He was despised and rejected—a
man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.
We
turned our backs on him and looked the other way.
He
was despised, and we did not care.” You sacrificed
Yourself for my salvation and my sins. Help me to
remember You as I face the trials of my life. Build
strength and endurance in me. Give me a faith that is so
obviously real that people see You in me! Amen! |
